About Gemma
Gemma is a highly experienced and versatile musician with a passion for inspiring students of all ages. She achieved Grade 8 distinctions in flute, clarinet, and saxophone before going on to study Music at Keele University, where she graduated with a BA (Hons) in 2010.
Since then, Gemma has built a busy and rewarding teaching career across Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire. She teaches woodwind, guitar and ukulele to a wide range of students—from young beginners to adult learners—supporting them through both classical and jazz exam pathways, as well as helping those who simply want to play for enjoyment.
Alongside her teaching, Gemma is an active performer with an impressively broad musical background. She has played in a wide variety of bands and ensembles, covering styles from 1940s big band right through to hip hop, and regularly performs as a reed player in orchestra and theatre pit bands for live shows.
A self-confessed lover of 1950s rock and roll, Gemma also brings her personality to the stage as a vocalist in the rockabilly band Unlucky Strike, while showcasing her instrumental skills on alto sax and flute with the Derby-based funk band Oobleck.
With her combination of technical expertise, real-world performance experience, and infectious enthusiasm, Gemma brings energy and inspiration to every lesson.
