Jarrod

Jarrod Ford is a pianist and composer whose musical life began at the age of five. Having performed throughout his younger years, his work today spans performance, composition, songwriting and music education, with a particular interest in music that is intimate, expressive and cinematic in character.
As a composer, Jarrod’s work ranges from sonatas and fantasias to contemporary piano music, cinematic compositions, organ works and original songwriting for emerging artists. He has also written for more unusual combinations of instruments, including piano and double bass, exploring the contrast between the resonance of the piano and sustained acoustic strings.

His music is often characterised by space, vulnerability and emotional development, allowing silence, resonance and changes in intensity to become as important as the notes themselves.
Alongside his work as a performer and composer, Jarrod works extensively in music education through Peak Music, supporting musicians at different stages of their development and creating opportunities for performance and collaboration.

His original piano composition Nieto emerged from a deeply personal period following a kidney transplant. Written around the idea of “when loss takes root again”, the work explores loss, gratitude, vulnerability and hope. Its spacious piano writing gradually builds towards an expansive climax before returning to stillness. For St Giles After Dark: CINEMATIC, Nieto will be performed with bowed double bass.

Jarrod is also the creator and Artistic Director of St Giles After Dark, a new live music concept bringing together performance, historic architecture, candlelight and immersive contemporary production. His aim is for St Giles itself — its scale, acoustic, architecture and pipe organ — to become part of the performance.

St Giles After Dark: CINEMATIC marks the beginning of that vision.
